Analysis:

Expectations were sky high on Janatha Garage, since NTR scored back to back hits with Temper, Nannaku Prematho and director Koratala Siva was also in full swing with blockbusters of his first two films Mirchi, Srimanthudu. What’s more, the film’s trailer, posters and songs were imposing.

However, Janatha Garage disappointed audience who went theaters with many hopes of this film to entertain them to the core. Neither the film has a winning story, nor did director Koratala Siva narrate it grippingly. Although there were some goosebumps moments in the film like GHMC episode and combinational scenes of NTR, Mohanlal, the film offers nothing more than that.

Mohanlal was given maximum screen time in first half which is one of the biggest drawbacks, when the film has a star hero like NTR in lead. Then, the same Mohanlal was sidelined in second half, when NTR takes charge to lead the Janatha Garage.

We expect a strong opponent when the film has mass hero like NTR. Unni Mukundan and Sachin Khedekar were other biggest disappointments. Although both were good actors, director showed them like very normal opponents. When there is no big villain, hero won’t get to showcase his heroism.

Last half an hour was biggest letdown. Koratala Siva dealt last episodes immaturely. The way he dealt first 15 to 20 minutes of second half, we expect the film to go next level. Nonetheless, Siva spoiled the flow by forcibly including unnecessary events.

Technicalities:

Director Koratala Siva has sensibly dealt his first two films Mirchi and Srimanthudu. Both the films had entertainment and emotions. When it comes to Janatha Garage, he botched to handle a passable subject. His writing as well as making was feeble. We find incompleteness in many sequences.

Tirru’s cinematography is okay. But, for a star hero film, we expect more than what we see. The visuals were not as grand as Siva’s previous films. Kotagiri’s editing was biggest drawback of the film. Scenes end abruptly and no smooth transition from shot to shot. Devi Sri Prasad is somewhat savior for the film with captivating audio and re-recording work. Production values of Mythri Movie Makers is okay.

Artists Performance:

NTR steals the show with his performance. The only positives in the first half were the sequences where NTR was seen, such is the impact of the actor. He was far better in second half. He was fantastic in GHMC episodes where he edifies government officials. Coming to styling, NTR appeared classy.

Mohanlal might be a big hero and he can pull any character with ease. Nevertheless, due to poor writing from Siva, this character looked weak, especially in second half. But, Mohanlal tried to give his best.

Samantha was glamorous here and there, but appeared odd in the song ‘Apple Beauty’. She was limited for first half and was hardly seen in second half. She played the role with perfection. Nithya Menen didn’t get much to showcase her acting skills has looked gorgeous. Kajal Agarwal oozed oomph in special song.

Unni Mukundan and Sachin were just okay. Other artists like Saikumar, Devayani, Suresh, Rahman, Sithara and Ajay were acceptable.

Box Office: Janatha Garage would have become second highest grosser due to many positive aspects surrounding the project like- good time release, long weekend, no competition, high pre-release buzz, combination etc. Unfortunately, the movie with lack of entertainment has very chances to turn out as safe venture for distributors.

Verdict: This Garage Requires Some Repairs
